Pink Saturday - An Autumn Welcome

I posted this mixed-media painting a few days early, but wanted to do it while I had the time.

This may be crazy looking, but it's very fulfilling when I'm able to do physical art instead of digital art for a change. I wish I could figure out how to get my paintings to photograph better, though. You never get to really see the sparkle in the paintings. I'm afraid I like glitter. Man. I should never admit that, especially on a Pink Saturday!  :O)

Be sure to visit Beverly's How Sweet The Sound where you will find links to the blogs of all the participants who joined in for this week's Pink Saturday.

Dr. Who

David Hayes posts a new photo on his blog every day that he has taken with his iPhone, and has altered with different filters found in "apps." (I'm still waiting to get an iPad so I can do the same kind of thing!) I really liked the one in his post today titled "Corn." I asked if I could use it to play around with in Photoshop. He probably expected I'd do some cool kind of stuff with it, but I've been watching episodes of Dr. Who on NetFlix, and, well . . .

I'm sure he would appreciate a visit to his blog where you can see his original photo. The link is: http://www.clearerreflections.com/ If you stop by there, please tell him I said, "Hello!"

Marguerite's Journals

I've mentioned my friend Marguerite several times in some of my blog posts in the past. She is such a creative person that sometimes I get jealous of her unstoppable creativity. She has created over 235 art journals! She posted a video on her blog showing some of the pages she has done. I wanted to post the video here on my blog, because I think it is such an incredible accomplishment. I've started a couple of journals, but have never filled up one. Marguerite is my art hero!

Pink Saturday - Oct. 27 - Breast Cancer Awareness

Since my wife is a breast cancer survivor, I thought I should participate in this week's Pink Saturday blog hop. That's her in the digital collage above. It's an ordeal no one should have to go through. Fortunately, there have been so many advances in curing cancer that, if caught in time, it is beatable.

Beverly, the weekly hostess of Pink Saturday, has an informative video on her blog you may see by clicking on this link: http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/my_weblog/

You will also find the links there to all of the other parcipants' blogs. I know they would love for you to stop and visit. Thank you for stopping here!

New Grandson!

We have a new grandson! He was born in the evening yesterday. His name is Boots. We're waiting to hear if he had a sister or brother born later.

Three Muses Challenge - Something Wicked Comes

Since my family does not celebrate Halloween, and since I missed the Take A Word challenge - Roses, I combined the two challenges.

Midnight Party

tap tap on a window
pitter pat on the floor
the clock struck midnight
but I can’t sleep
with all the noise
outside my door

where did they come from
why are they here
maybe they’re night owls
and there’s no need to fear

now I hear music
and the moving of chairs
I think I hear dancing
and there goes a cheer
from the sound of the giggles
they’ve opened the beer

maybe I’m dreaming
and it’s all a mistake
I’ll scrunch my eyes tightly
till the sun comes awake

then with a feather
someone tickled my nose
and there stood before me
a bird and a mouse.
“come please and join us
we’re having such fun
we’re having a party
right inside your house”

I jumped out of bed
and laughed with delight
for who would believe it
this dark dreary night

Life Book 2012 Week 42 - Celebration

This week in our Life Book class, we were suppose to celebrate the child in us and paint free like a child would. Well, mine is definitely childlike! Our scanner is smaller than the 9 x 12 size of the watercolor paper, but it managed to capture most of it. I can't believe I'm actually posting this. I guess it's alright, though. You know by now I'm pretty crazy.

For June

I created this for my friend June in England. Like me, the gray days get her down. I thought a little bit of craziness might cheer her up.

Fantastic Image Transfer Video!

Steven Speight is another guy who has been taking the Life Book 2012 classes. He made a video for all of us of an image transfer technique that actually works. I'm posting it here to share with all of my blog friends.

By the way, registration for Life Book 2013 is open, and I highly recommend signing up. Tam offers a payment plan, thank goodness, otherwise I wouldn't be able to take it again. There are 22 different teachers who will be offering instruction during the year, and there are so many wonderful techniques to learn. This year's classes haven't even finished yet, but I'm anxious to start next year already.

The link reads 2012, but it's actually for 2013.

Life Book 2012 Class - Week 40

Our instructions for this week's class were about creating a collage using sewing, paper and material, and adding in any other accessories as we wanted. (buttons, glitter, etc.) We were suppose to celebrate where we are now or how we are feeling as compared to what we've been through during the past year. Yikes! What does someone do with that? My collage, as usual, ended up pretty crazy. But I'm happy with it, because it's all mixed-media instead of anything digital.

Since I spent the first half of the year watching my mother die slowly, and much of the year battling the same old depression and anxiety issues, the words came to my mind "still here." Being here still is definitely something to celebrate.

I had to do hand stitches, and some aren't showing up in the scan, but this ended up being a fun project to do. The moose (big and tiny), tree and small leaves on the left are actually buttons I sewed on. Being out in nature makes me happy, so I was trying to add those elements to it. Anyway, it is what it is! :O)

Ice Cream!

I could eat ice cream any hour, day or month of the year. I saw this short video today advertising Harrods' of London ice cream.  Anyone know of a cheap way to get to London?
